NEW DELHI – The Congress on Sunday alleged that BJP workers with sticks tried to disrupt Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Assam’s Sonitpur district.
The Congress party claimed that people carrying BJP flags attacked its leaders and that media persons who were covering the Yatra were manhandled.
A video shared by news agency ANI showed Rahul Gandhi being rescued and moved inside the Yatra bus by security personnel and party workers.
Narrating the incident, the Congress leader said that nearly two dozen BJP workers carrying sticks came in front of the Yatra bus but ran away after he came out.
“20-25 BJP workers carrying sticks came in front of our bus, and when I came out from the bus, they ran away…they think that Congress is scared of BJP and RSS, they’re dreaming. They can tear as many posters and placards as they want, we don’t care. we are not scared of anybody, we are neither scared of PM Narendra Modi nor Assam CM,” Gandhi said.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has launched a scathing attack on Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the incident.
Addressing a rally in Assam’s Nagaon, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that CM Sarma working on directions from PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
“Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will cross 15 states…The Yatra before this was undertaken from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. At that time, no stone pelting occurred anywhere. No attempts were made to scare off…Why is this happening in Assam? Because he (Assam CM) is the ‘chela’ of PM Modi. He listens to what Shah says. He scares the Dalits, minorities and backward class of the country. By scaring people, he is working on the next election,” Kharge said.
