KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia and Indonesia share a lot of cultural similarities, including culinary traditions.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Dorsett Hartamas Kuala Lumpur is presenting a flavourful fusion of Malaysian and Indonesian delicacies at its Table Talk Restaurant.

The buffet spread pays tribute to the flavours of the past, bringing together the best of traditional Malay and Indonesian cuisines.

It features signature Indonesian dishes by celebrity chef Fikree Aznan.

Not to be missed is the Nasi Kambing or mutton rice. The tender mutton is infused with the fragrant spiced flavours of the briyani rice.

Its taste can be further enhanced by the savoury, mildly spicy black pepper sauce.

The fragrant, savoury Ayam Bekaka, or grilled chicken, has a strong aroma of chilies and a tropical essence.

Diners can find a wide range of local foods such as roti canai, murtabak, roti jala and roti john at the Canai Corner.

The murtabak has a crispy skin while the roti john combines the rich flavours of cheese and chili sauce sandwiched between two soft, fluffy bun halves.

Over at the barbecue corner are various grilled delights such as squid, prawns and chicken drummettes.

Despite the scorch of the grill, the squid and prawns retain their fresh sweetness while the tender chicken drummettes carry a mild honey-like sweetness.

Diners with a heavy palate must try the marbled, tender Daging Rendang Minang, or the Minang-style beef rendang which has a slow, spicy burn.

Another spicy treat for the diners is the Kari Ayam Palembang, or Palembang curry chicken, which is surprisingly strong on the nose but mild on taste.

Diners will detect the strong spicy and savoury aroma of the curry which is a sharp contrast against the lightly flavoured chicken’s sweetness.

Meanwhile, the Ayam Goreng Bumbu, or spiced fried chicken, will please diners with its vibrant mix of spices which is dominated by the fragrance of lemongrass.

From the Malaysian corner, the chicken and beef satay served in the buffet are a must.

The aromatic chicken satay has a lemongrass fragrance and is enhanced by the classic peanut sauce.

A wide variety of kuih and fried street food too is served at the buffet, including crispy curry puffs and sweet kuih lapis.

The “Goreng-Goreng” corner is where you’ll find Malaysian favourites such as deepfried popiah (spring rolls) and banana fritters, while the local laksa can be found at the Noodle Corner.
