PUCHONG – A total of 275 rats were exterminated in a single day by the Subang Jaya City Council at Bandar Puteri 1 commercial area, Puchong on May 9.
In a group photo, health officers from the city council posed with community volunteers and the massive numbers of dead rats lined up in neat rows on the pavement.
Due to the sheer scale of the infestation captured in the photo, the photo shared on Facebook by Puchong TODAY quickly drew significant traction and comments from local residents.
Some netizens joked that even the rats know Bandar Puteri Puchong is famous for its endless rows of popular eateries.
However, others took a more serious tone, pointing out that extermination drives are merely a short-term band-aid.
They urged restaurant operators to take responsibility, reiterating that maintaining strict kitchen hygiene is the only sustainable, long-term solution.
Subang Jaya City Councillor Lee Jen Uyin confirmed the details when contacted by Sin Chew Daily.
“The city council had been receiving complaints from business operators and local residents about a severe rat infestation in the commercial square, which prompted our immediate action,” she said.
Lee also advised 24-hour convenience store owners to conduct their own routine pest control measures to prevent rats from nesting and breeding on their premises.
“Moving forward, the council has already scheduled subsequent operations in both the Bandar Puteri 1 and Bandar Puteri 2 commercial zones later this year to drastically curb the rat population,” she added.
