YANGON – According to state-run newspapers, Russia and Myanmar have discussed mutual visa-free travel for citizens.
The Myanmar delegation, led by Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Kyaw Soe Win, who is in Russia, discussed the matter during a meeting with the Russian Minister of Economic Development and his team on June 10.
During the meeting, they discussed promoting comprehensive cooperation between the government, private sector and people-to-people exchanges between Myanmar and Russia, mutually organizing Familiarization Trips (FAM Trips) to promote tourism between Myanmar and Russia, implementing mutual visa-free travel for Myanmar and Russian citizens, jointly participating in bilateral tourism exhibitions, increasing the number of Russian tourists visiting Myanmar, cooperation in facilitating the return of Russian government employees on long vacations abroad, and attracting Russian investors to Myanmar’s hotel and tourism sector.
In addition, the news reports stated that they met with Russian investors from Cosmos Hotel Group and BN Group, who are interested in investing in Myanmar’s hotel sector, and discussed Myanmar’s beaches and tourist attractions, investment opportunities, and plans to assist them if they want to come and carry out a pilot project.
