KATHMANDU – Scrap traders demonstrated in the capital on Thursday, protesting against the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s crackdown on their business.

Traders gathered at Bhrikutimandap and marched in a rally to the KMC office in Kamaladi, carrying banners accusing Mayor Balendra Sah of using force against them.

They claim the municipality has subjected scrap traders and collecting labourers to unfair treatment for the past two years.

The traders demanded an immediate stop to beatings, confiscating goods, and demolishing structures by the municipal authorities. Protesters carried placards reading ‘Respect the work of scrap traders’, ‘Stop unfair treatment immediately ’, and ‘Uphold court rulings.’
