CEBU CITY – “Life is not a race.” Some may disagree with the adage. But 70-year-old Segundo Vismanos showed that he embodies it.

Recently, Vismanos proudly marched as a graduate of Lahug National High School, proving that the pursuit of knowledge has no expiration date.

While most people his age have already settled into retirement, he not only finished high school but also earned a “Special Distinction Award” for his perseverance and commitment to learning.

The school posted online Vismanos’ graduation photo, in which he wears his toga and the sash indicating that he belongs to the “Class of 2026.”

The post quickly gained attention, with netizens expressing their happiness for and how they take pride in Vismanos.

Win for values, discipline

The post elicited statements about values and discipline in the modern era.

“Never too young nor too old to learn. Every day is a learning experience,” said Stine.

“Congratulations po! Pursuing higher education at an old age is self-fulfillment indeed!” said Ann.

Most commenters expressed excitement, while some iterated that younger generations should take inspiration from Vismanos’ example.

“Wow, lesson learned for all young generations nga wala magtarong og eskwela. Look at Tatay and his gesture to pursue his determination to succeed. Congratulations!” said Helen.
