Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link’s Nansha extension to open in October

This reduces traveling time between Nansha and Shenzhen Baoan International Airport from two hours to just 20 minutes.

SHENZHEN – An extension of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link to Nansha district in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, will come into operation in October, reducing traveling time between Nansha and Shenzhen Baoan International Airport from two hours to just 20 minutes.

The 24-kilometer Link opened on June 30 and became a busy channel connecting the east and west banks of the Pearl River Estuary. During Mid-Autumn Festival, the daily traffic volume of vehicles passing through the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link exceeded 105,000 trips.

In addition to the new extension, more infrastructure is under construction to turn Nansha into one of the largest transportation hubs in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Within a one-hour drive, Nansha can reach and serve 80 million people, connecting over 800,000 firms, according to the district government. For example, it will take only 15 minutes from Nansha to reach downtown Zhongshan, 20 minutes to Shenzhen and about 40 minutes to Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint which ties with Hong Kong.

The Nansha extension line will set up three toll stations and a service area. About 85 percent of the construction of interchange ramps and the asphalt paving for the entire route has been completed.
