PHNOM PENH – Time Out magazine, a prominent publication based in London, UK, has named Wat Bo, in Siem Reap town, as one of the “world’s coolest neighbourhoods in 2022”.
In its October 11 publication, it said the ranking came from 20,000 survey responses from respondents who informed them of the good and ‘not-so-good’ things about the suburbs they dwelt in, combined with the expertise of their global network of writers.
“One standout was Wat Bo Village in Siem Reap, Cambodia, which came third in the overall ranking and took the crown of being the coolest neighbourhood in Asia,” it said.
Wat Bo located in Sala Kamroeuk commune, on the eastern side of the river, opposite the well-known tourist destinations of Pub Street and the night market.
Time Out described the suburb as a place where expats frequented numerous bars, ‘experimental Khmer restaurants in scenic settings’, and elegant designer hotels.
“In fact, this bit of the Siem Reap riverside is now one of the city’s chic-est and most happening areas. So next time you’re in SR gulping down all those famous temples, be sure to leave a little time for the pleasures of Wat Bo Village,” it said.
Ministry of Tourism spokesman Top Sopheak said Siem Reap authorities paid close attention to maintaining good order and security, and that the suburb had a pristine pagoda and a ‘role model’ primary school.
