KULAI – The upcoming Malaysia and Singapore leaders retreat, which will take place early next month, is expected to be held in Putrajaya.

“The JS-SEZ (Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone) signing will take place during the leaders retreat on Dec 8 and Dec 9, where tentatively it would be held in Putrajaya,” said Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He added that the matter was discussed during the special joint ministerial committee for Iskandar Malaysia meeting (JMCIM), which was held on Thursday morning (Nov 7) in a hotel in Johor Baru city centre.

It is learnt that Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Singapore Cabinet members National Development Minister Desmond Lee and Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat attended the meeting.

Onn Hafiz said this after officiating the Mercedes-Benz regional logistics centre at Senai Airport City here on Thursday.

He said the JMCIM meeting between both sides went very well, and Malaysia and Singapore had a good understanding. He added that more details about the JS-SEZ agreement would be shared in the coming weeks.

Earlier in his speech, Onn Hafiz, who is also the Machap assemblyman, said the state government is committed in easing investments in Johor through the Kulai Fast Lane initiative that would be expanded under the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre (IMFC).

He said the Kulai Fast Lane has facilitated the entry of more than 38 investments worth RM52bil, including from Mercedes-Benz worth RM1.5bil.
