HONG KONG – Six more Hong Kong residents who have fallen victim to the Southeast Asia job scam have safely returned to Hong Kong from Thailand, according to the Security Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s government.
They came back to the city on Friday with the assistance of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR, the Chinese embassies in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Kingdom of Thailand, according to a statement issued by the bureau.

The bureau’s dedicated task force and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Bangkok also coordinated in the efforts to bring them back.

Hong Kong police earlier arrested six people over the job scam after 37 reportedly fell to the scheme after being lured to Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos to engage in illegal work since January.
Police said the victims were lured with promises of high-paying jobs through friends, social media and telemarketing.
