PABNA – After two days of mourning the loss of her eight newborn puppies, a mother dog in Ishwardi upazila headquarters finally found some solace when two puppies were brought to her on Wednesday afternoon.
They are now taking shelter on the Upazila Parishad compound. This was made possible by Shahriar Ami, an animal lover and businessman in Ishwardi upazila.
According to animal experts and officials, receiving the new puppies will help the mother dog heal.
Ishwardi Upazila Livestock Officer Aklima Begum said that the new puppies are providing mental support for the mother dog.
Speaking to The Daily Star, Shahriar Ami said that he has had pets for a long time. Recently, his pet dog delivered seven puppies.
The video of the mother dog crying after losing her eight puppies touched millions across the country and sparked outrage on social media.
When the Ishwardi UNO and the livestock department contacted him, he decided to donate two puppies, Shahriar Ami said.
”I introduced the puppies to the grieving mother on Wednesday afternoon,” Ami said.
The mother dog eventually accepted the new puppies and went to its shelter on the Upazila Parishad compound.
Although the new puppies are about 25 days old, Aklima Begum said the mother dog will nurse them for the next month or so.
