PETALING JAYA – Gastro-intestinal issues have plagued Datuk Seri Najib Razak for years, says his daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib.

In an Instagram story on Monday (Sept 5), she said that her father, the former prime minister, is prone to stomach ulcers, especially during times of stress.

“The last time his ulcers bled (last year), he was unaware of his condition until he felt faint due to internal bleeding and was admitted quietly to hospital for a week.

“Back in 2010, he was similarly admitted to hospital to treat bleeding stomach ulcers and spent three days there,” she said.

She added that her father was not one to complain when he was ill and the prior episodes required “serious medical intervention” as they had been detected late.

“Kami sangat berharap Daddy mendapat pemeriksaan konsistent dan rawatan, jika diperlukan, oleh pihak penjara dan hospital (We hope Daddy will get regular check-ups and treatment if needed, from prison and hospital authorities).

“Please take care of our Daddy and Bossku,” she said.

On Sunday (Sept 4), Najib’s special officer Muhamad Mukhlis Maghribi confirmed that he had been admitted to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

“He is currently being treated at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. I wish to thank prison authorities and Hospital Kuala Lumpur staff for the cooperation and help given,” he said.

The former prime minister is currently serving a 12-year sentence in Kajang Prison following the Federal Court’s decision on Aug 23 to uphold his corruption conviction involving RM42mil of SRC International funds. Also upheld was a RM210mil fine against him.

Najib is facing four other criminal charges related to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.
