YANGON – Strong winds have caused trees to fall on homes and roads in Nay Pyi Taw, Magway, Bago, Mandalay, Sagaing, Shan and Kachin states, according to the Myanmar Fire Service.
At around 6 a.m. on April 27, strong winds caused trees to fall on Bahutu Street, Ward No. (4), Leh Cha Township, Shan State, and on Ward No. (6), Myo Pak Street, Pyin Oo Lwin Township, Mandalay Region, prompting township fire brigades to carry out clearing operations.
On April 26, strong winds caused trees to fall on houses in Ward No. (2) of North Kettyara, Setuttara Township, Magway Region; in Taungoo Township, Bago Region, heavy rain and strong winds caused trees to fall on houses in Ward No. (1) of Theindaw Oo Pagoda Road; in Tatkon Township, Nay Pyi Taw, heavy rain and strong winds caused trees to fall on a convenience store near Milepost (259/3) of the old Yangon-Mandalay Highway; in Pyawbwe Township, Mandalay Region, heavy rain and strong winds caused trees to fall on Myinbet Ward, next to the old Yangon-Mandalay Highway; in Hopin Township, Kachin State, heavy winds caused trees to fall on Myoma Ward, Shwebo-Myitkyina Road, Union Highway; and in Pyin Oo Lwin Township, Thro Taung Village, Mandalay Region, down the Milepost (27/7) road. Township fire brigades carried out clearing operations.
On April 25, heavy rain and strong winds in Moe Kaung Township, Kachin State, caused roofs to collapse in Naung Kai Taw Ward, buildings in Nat Gyi Kone Ward, Myanmar Economic Bank compound, and trees to fall on power lines in front of the Information and Public Relations Office in the East Ward and below Moe Kaung Bridge.
Similarly, on April 25, in front of the Mental Health Hospital, Myit Nge-Thobo Crossroads, Mandalay Region, in Daandwin Village, Amarapura Township, Myanmar, in Sha Pin Hla Village, Magway Township, Magway Region, and in Sagaing Region, Sagaing Region, in Nandarwan Keut Thit, Old Hospital Road, due to strong winds, the township fire brigades carried out clearing operations after trees fell due to strong winds, according to the Myanmar Fire Brigade.
