Thailand deports over 90 Myanmar citizens who have served their sentences

YANGON – Thailand has reportedly deported more than 90 Myanmar citizens who have served their sentences to Myanmar.

On May 13, Myanmar migrant workers who were released from prison in Ranong, Thailand, were transported to Kawthaung, Tanintharyi Region.

The Myanmar nationals, who had already been sentenced for violating existing laws in Thailand, were transferred in six tugboats led by Ranong-based labor envoy U Aung Soe Than, a total of 92 people, 66 males and 26 females.

Officials will welcome the returning Myanmar citizens and screen them for COVID-19 infection, collect personal information, check for blacklisted individuals, wanted persons for human trafficking, victims of human trafficking, and fugitives, before sending them to their respective homes.
