Train traffic affected as protesting farmers resort to Rail Roko in Punjab

The farmers regret the inconvenience caused to the people but say it is in the interest of everyone as the majority of the country’s population are farmers and agriculture plays a crucial role in everyone’s life.

NEW DELHI – The protesting farmers unions in Punjab on Sunday squatted on railway tracks between 12 and 4 pm at several places in the state as part of their Rail Roko protest.

Due to the protest, movement of several trains was affected in the northern state causing inconvenience to passengers.

The call for the rail roko protest was given by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha in support of their demands including legal guarantee to MSP. Complying with the call, farmers across the state sat on railway tracks at many locations across the state.

A farmer leader, speaking to a news agency, said they would continue the protest till their demands are met. The farmers, nevertheless, regretted the inconvenience caused to the people. However, said it is in the interest of everyone as the majority of the country’s population is farmers and agriculture plays a crucial role in everyone’s life.

Meanwhile, many farmers continued to camp at Shambhu and Khanauri border points.

The farmers launched the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest on February 13. However they were stopped from moving towards Delhi at the border points with Haryana.
