KUALA LUMPUR – The unity government has successfully built a “concrete roof” that prevented any attempt of a “break-in” (tebuk atap), says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Referring to the coalition of political parties in the government, he said there were no conflicts arising from their differences.

“This is because all the political parties in the government have good cooperation. In the one year of the Madani Government, there has never been a clash among the Cabinet ministers due to political differences.

“So, this formation is successful. As such, we have the strength. Any desperate attempt by the Opposition (to break in) will fail,” he said at a dialogue session that was held during the Madani Government One Year Anniversary Programme yesterday.

His response came about following a participant’s comment about “tebuk atap” attempts by the Opposition to take over Putrajaya.

Anwar said there had been such attempts back in July and August.

He also said Malaysians could see for themselves the strides made by the unity government in the past 12 months.

“Looking at our performance, I am grateful although I don’t want to be arrogant about it.”

He cited the case of the Defence Ministry, especially the manner in which it dealt with contracts on weapon purchases.

“There were no commissions, no agents taking hundreds of millions of ringgit,” he said.

He also emphasised that the investments recorded were not due to him solely as they required the involvement of various agencies and ministries.

“Every ministry put in the effort. We would not have been able to make changes without a strong team and overall leadership commitment,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was present, said all 18 political parties in the government gave their full support to Anwar.

“If there is a difference of opinion from the grassroots, it is not the party’s stance, but more of individuals,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof pointed out that the goal of the Madani Government was to ensure that the country would move forward for the well-being of the people.“If this unity exists, then there will be stability. This will enable the government to focus on administering the affairs of this country and strengthen the economy for the people’s well-being,” he said.
