PHNOM PENH – US President Joe Biden will visit Cambodia from November 12-13 to participate in the annual US-ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit, to be hosted in Phnom Penh.

An October 28 White House press statement said that in Cambodia, President Biden will reaffirm the United States’ enduring commitment to Southeast Asia and ASEAN centrality, and will look to build on the success of the historic US-ASEAN Special Summit in Washington.

“He will underscore the importance of US-ASEAN cooperation in ensuring security and prosperity in the region, and the wellbeing of our combined one billion people,” the statement said.

The statement said President Biden will visit first Egypt on November 11 where he will attend the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh. After Cambodia, he will continue on to Indonesia from November 13-16, where he will attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Ali.

“We look forward to welcoming President Biden to Cambodia November 12-13 to participate in the annual U.S.-ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit!,” tweeted US ambassador to Cambodia W. Patrick Murphy on October 29.

Cambodia, the ASEAN Chair, will host the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summit and related meetings from November 10-13.

World leaders are expected to attend, with Russia President Vladimir Putin also invited, although he had not yet confirmed his attendance.
