World Happiness Report 2023: Bangladesh slips 24 notches

Bangladesh ranked 118th out of 137 countries this year; the country was in 94th place last year.

DHAKA – Bangladesh is not among the top 100 nations in this year’s ranking of the world’s happiest nations after slipping 24 notches, according to the “World Happiness Report 2023”.

Bangladesh ranked 118th out of 137 countries this year. The country was in 94th place out of 146 nations last year.

India, Pakistan, Myanmar and Sri Lanka placed 126th, 108th, 117th and 112th respectively while Nepal placed 78th in the happiness index.

The World Happiness Report is a publication of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. It contains articles and rankings of national happiness, based on respondent ratings of their own lives, which the report also correlates with various (quality of) life factors.

Finland has been named the world’s happiest country for the sixth year running in the happiness index, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Israel, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and Luxemburg.

Afghanistan has been ranked as the unhappiest, followed by Lebanon, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Congo, Botswana, and Malawi.
