DHAKA – Khadija Akter Raha, the winner of ‘Miss Asia Bangladesh’ at the “Mrs Universe Bangladesh 2022” competition, filed a General Diary (GD) against the programme organisers last Sunday.

The Mrs Asia Bangladesh winner filed the GD against the organisers of Miss Universe Bangladesh 2022, owners of Apurbo.com—Abdul Latif, as well as his wife Afsana Helali aka Jonaki—at the Gulshan Police Station, as confirmed by the station’s sub-inspector, Faizul Haque.

Raha accused the organisers of embezzling money, as well as intimidating and threatening contestants.

According to the GD, Raha attested that she was supposed to participate in the “Mrs Asia International 2022”, which was held in Thailand. The event was scheduled to begin in November 20. Taking account for her lodging, clothing, food and other necessary expenses, Abdul Latif and his wife took BDT 6 lakh from Raha on November 8.

However, as the contest drew closer, Raha received no update on her participation at the event. When she inquired about the issue to Abdul Latif and his wife on November 14-15, they ‘allegedly’ told her that it won’t be possible this year. However, if she still wished to participate this year, it would require an additional amount of BDT 14 lakh.

Raha found the entire situation suspicious and asked for a refund. However, the organisers threatened her instead of returning her money, compelling Raha to take legal action against them.

The owners of Apurbo.com have denied all allegations made by Raha as baseless lies and asked to her to present proof if she had any.
