KATHMANDU – Chhath, the festival when the rising and setting Sun God is worshipped by offering Arghya (curd and water) has concluded on Friday.

Devotees were seen worshipping the rising Sun on Gangasagar at Janakpur and at Pashupati Guheshwari along Bagmati River, among other places, during the last day of the Chhath festival on Friday morning.

On Thursday evening, devotees gathered to offer ‘arghya’ to the setting sun and to worship Chhathi Maiya.

The devotees undertake fasting wishing prosperity, happiness, longevity of their family members and freedom from diseases, among other wishes. The devotees take holy dip into rivers, observe fasting and abstain even from drinking water during the festival.
