PETALING JAYA – Significant traffic congestion has been reported along the roads leading out of the city as folk begin journeying back to their hometowns to vote in conjunction with the 15th General Election (GE15).
The Malaysian Highway Authority said that eastbound traffic leading to and after the Gombak Toll Plaza along the Karak Expressway had slowed to a crawl since 3.37pm, in a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 17).
It also reported that northbound traffic along the North-South Expressway (NSE) had also begun to slow down since 4.32pm.
Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) operator Anih Berhad has also issued travel time recommendations for east coast highway users from Nov 18 to Nov 20, in a Facebook post on Malaysian Highway Authority’s Facebook page on Thursday (Nov 17).
Caretaker prime minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced Nov 18 and 19 as public holidays to make it easier for Malaysians to return home to vote for the upcoming GE15 on Monday (Nov 14).
