Hot, dry spell in Brunei to persist

The country is experiencing unusually hot and dry weather conditions as it reaches the final phase of the Northeast Monsoon, according to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – The country is experiencing unusually hot and dry weather conditions as it reaches the final phase of the Northeast Monsoon, according to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department.

In its latest weather update issued on March 25, the department said atmospheric conditions are currently more stable, resulting in reduced rainfall activity across the nation.

Since March 8, no rainfall has been recorded at the Meteorological Observation Station at Brunei International Airport. Total rainfall recorded for March 2026 stands at 44.5 millimetres, approximately 80 per cent below the normal monthly average of 143.4 millimetres.

Over the past three days, maximum daily temperatures in several areas have also reached up to 34.7°C, reflecting the ongoing hot spell affecting the country.

For the final week of March, weather conditions are expected to remain largely stable with minimal rainfall activity. Daily maximum temperatures are forecast to range between 33°C and 35°C.

The department has advised the public to take necessary precautions in light of the hot and dry conditions, which are expected to continue in the coming days.

Road users, fishermen and members of the public are urged to stay updated with the latest forecasts, advisories and warnings issued by the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department and to take appropriate safety measures.
