Mongolia confirms adherence to “One China” policy

A meeting between top officials from both countries covered political, economic, and trade cooperation and called for continued high-level engagement and frequent mutual visits.

ULAANBAATAR – On February 11, 2026, B.Battsetseg, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Sun Weidong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of People’s Republic of China, for talks on deepening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across a wide range of areas.

The two sides described cooperation between their foreign ministries as a key channel for strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Mongolia and China, with an emphasis on projects and programmes that deliver tangible benefits to citizens as agreed at heads-of-state level. The meeting covered political, economic and trade cooperation and called for continued high-level engagement and frequent mutual visits.

B.Battsetseg underlined Mongolia’s commitment to developing relations on principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference, equality and mutual benefit. She also expressed Mongolia’s firm support for the “One China” policy, a stance the ministry said will guide bilateral relations going forward.

Sun Weidong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of People’s Republic of China, said that foreign-policy priorities of “friendliness, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness” towards neighbouring countries and noted that China’s upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan for Social and Economic Development includes goals to deepen cooperation with partners along the Belt and Road Initiative. He said those priorities create further opportunities for mutually beneficial projects and economic ties.
