MANILA – The pursuit of personalities involved in the flood control scandal is far from over, and more developments are expected as the government continues its investigation, according to Palace press officer Claire Castro.

During a briefing on Tuesday, Castro was asked to comment on what happened to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s promise last December that there would be no “Merry Christmas” for those involved in the flood control controversy.

“He said that there are people whose Christmas will not be merry. Those who are in prison, Christmas will definitely not be merry. But it is not over yet,” she responded.

“If the people are still waiting for something, the president is also waiting for something,” she pointed out.

“The president is also waiting for a quick resolution from the Ombudsman and the DOJ [Department of Justice]. If all those involved have solid evidence and that is what the president wants, due process will be observed,” Castro continued.

“The president’s term is not over yet. A lot more will happen and will happen,” she emphasized.

Castro also said that cases have already been filed, warrants of arrest have been issued, and some individuals have returned funds allegedly stolen from the taxpayers.

Last December, contractor Sarah Discaya and her cohorts were arrested in connection with their alleged links to a P96.5-million “ghost” flood control project in Davao Occidental.

Resigned Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, who has an arrest warrant for malversation of public funds worth P289.5 million for a flood control project in Mindoro, remains at large.

Meanwhile, Castro said there is no information yet on whether or not Marcos will appoint new members to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, which is now left with only its chair, Andy Reyes.
