DHAKA – The Jumma Chhatra Janata has suspended the road blockade in Khagrachhari till October 5.
The student body made the announcement on their Facebook page at 9:00pm yesterday.
When contacted, several members of the organisation confirmed the development.
They said that a five-member probe committee has been formed by the district administration to investigate the violence in Guimara.
Following discussions with the representatives of the Jumma Chhatra Janata on Tuesday afternoon, Zila Parishad Chairman Shefalika Tripura, Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner ABM Iftekharul Islam Khandker, Superintendent of Police Arefin Juel, Guimara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Irine Akter, and Officer-in-Charge of Guimara Police Station Md Enamul Haque Chowdhury inspected the affected area in Guimara.
“Relying on the assurances and initiatives of the administration and out of respect for the Sharadiya Durga Puja of the Hindu community, we have suspended the blockade from 11:00pm on Tuesday until October 5,” the Jumma Chhatra Janata said.
“However, if the administration does not fulfil the 8-point demand presented to them, the organisation will adopt a strict programme again,” it added.
