BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – A total of 101 orphans and underprivileged children on Sunday received donations from The Alumni of Students staying at Brunei Government Hostel in Singapore (AKBS) during a ceremony at Dewan Digadong, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The ceremony aimed to help orphans and underprivileged children prepare to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri and reduce the burden of spending on essential needs.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusof bin Awang Haji Ismail, who is an alumnus of the Brunei student group in Singapore, was the guest of honour.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Awang Haji Mohamad and Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, who are members of the alumni, were also present.
The ceremony was co-chaired by two alumni, Dato Paduka Awang Eddie Dato Haji Sunny and Awang Haji Hamidon bin Haji Mohd Tahir.
The event began with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Haji Mohd Lazim bin Haji Matali.
This was followed by the reading of verses from Surah Al-Baqarah by Huzaifah bin Haji Hasbi and a Tahlil recitation led by Haji Mohd Lazim bin Haji Matali.
The guest of honour then presented donations to 68 orphans and 33 children from underprivileged families.
The ceremony was held to provide contributions to those in need while serving as a gathering for alumni to further strengthen their relationships.
