Through the US National Defence Authorisation Act for Fiscal Year 2023, the US Congress authorised up to $1 billion worth of weapons aid for Taiwan.
The 2023 drills take place amid Beijing’s military manoeuvres around the island, which defence experts say have become increasingly specific.
A foreign ministry spokesperson stressed that the complete reunification is an unstoppable historical trend.
The government also plans to start soliciting opinions from experts as early as this summer in order to draw up guidelines on shelter capabilities.
The government earlier said that part of its priority was the safety of over 100,000 Filipinos who live or work in Taiwan.
The US, like most countries, has no formal relations with Taiwan, but is the island’s most important international backer and supplier of arms.
The war game assumed a crisis in Taiwan in 2027 developing into a Japan contingency, with discussions held in the format of a National Security Council meeting of nine ministers.
