YANGON – According to a statement from the Myanmar Police Force, a group of people working as brokers who were extorting money from taxi drivers and passengers at the Aung Mingalar Expressway have been arrested.

According to reports, there are people working as brokers and extorting money from taxi drivers and passengers at the Aung Mingalar Expressway in Chittikone Ward, Mingalardon Township. A joint team, with the cooperation of the public, has been investigating the area by collecting information.

In the afternoon of May 9, Zaw Lin Htun (b) Tati was arrested near the Rakhine School sign on Road No. (3) in Mingalardon Township, and Soe Thiha (b) Chit Thar was arrested near the intersection of Road No. (3) and Khray Pin Road in Chit Tikone Ward.

According to the statements of the two arrested persons, Zaw Lin Htun (b) Tatty and Soe Thiha (b) Chit Thar, the investigation revealed that the two, along with Thein Htet Aung (b) Jap Gyi (remaining under arrest), have been collecting monthly fees from taxis and motorcycle carriers at the Aung Mingalar Expressway since 2021, pressuring passengers who got off from passenger vans to rent taxis, demanding higher fares than the set price, and extorting money from taxi drivers. They have been working as brokers on the streets of the Aung Mingalar Expressway, dividing their areas, and soliciting money by bribery.

From this incident, a case has been opened against two people, Zaw Lin Htun (b) Tati and Soe Thiha (b) Chitthar, who worked as brokers at the Aung Mingalar car park and demanded money by cheating.
