MANILA – Top officials of the Philippine National Police underwent surprise drug testing at Camp Crame during a recent command conference.

The on-the-spot drug testing on Friday, which also saw the participation of PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., was conducted among 89 officials from the PNP command group, directorial staff, regional directors, and national support unit directors, the PNP said on Sunday.

The drug tests carried out by the PNP Forensic Group all yielded negative results, it said.

“This surprise drug test underscores the PNP’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct among its members,” Acorda said.

“It also serves as a clear message that the organization is resolute in its efforts to combat illegal drugs and ensure the integrity of its leadership,” he said.

Early this month, the PNP reported that 24 out of 115,983 officers and personnel tested positive for illegal drug use in random drug tests carried out from January to August this year amid heightened efforts to push its revitalized internal cleansing drive. INQ
