Among the key issues, vulnerable countries are pressing for developed nations to pay compensation for the emissions over hundreds of years and the consequences.
The multibillion-dollar deal reached in Sept last year was heralded as a key component of the new strategic partnership of Australia, the UK and the US.
The ambassador also said there were many areas in which Australia and China share common interests and continue to cooperate, such as environmental protection and free trade.
Many say a new government in Canberra headed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is expected to see an improved trajectory in the relationship.
